Using iron pipes for awning frames also meant more designs were available as the iron pipes were easily bent into various curves and shapes. This was also the timeframe where storefronts started adapting the framed awnings to draw in customers and keep their stores cool.
Soon advances in motors and materials allowed for our modern motorized retractable awnings and light, but sturdy, frames made from better metal alloys.
